Q: What is this game about?
IsekAI Game is a text-heavy story-driven roguelike, set in the fictional world of Valdris.
Valdris is similar in character to other high fantasy worlds, but has some
narrative elements which you can explore in the game.
While Valdris has an author and there is intent in the story presented, very much
of what you will experience has been determined by an AI. (It's literally in the name.)
One of the reasons I built this was to see how well this would work.
Mechanically, you have a map Slay the Spire style, and progress through encounters.
You make choices and roll dice. The combination of AI and rules engine adjudicates what
happens.
Q: How do I create a character?
You can either use a pre-made character or create your own. Unlike other RPGs, we do not directly allow you to specify that character. You point IsekAI at a profile of yourself on the Internet, and the AI writes a character sheet and draws a portrait for you.
Q: Is it appropriate for all audiences?
It is heroic fantasy in the style of Lord of the Rings. Bad things can happen to the player character or people around them. They are not depicted in a particularly explicit fashion. The story does not revel in cruelty, even in failure. At the same time, unlike other games, your character can be you, and that being a fictional conceit is something not all children might understand. We'll leave the decision up to you as to whether you think it's appropriate for your child.
Q: What does it cost to play?
This is an art project / experiment from Patrick McKenzie (patio11). It is free to play for the moment.
Q: I have concerns about AI!
You are welcome to express them on the Internet. I am, candidly, about as likely to listen to them as I'd listen to someone writing me about a D&D campaign they are not a player of.
